Becoming a Singapore citizen brings with it a host of benefits. After all, Singapore is regarded as one of the world’s most peaceful countries, with a high quality of life, high-paying jobs, and accessible healthcare system. If this is not enough, a Singapore passport grants you visa-free travel to 189 countries.
Obtaining Singapore citizenship guarantees access to all those benefits, and even more. At the same time, you will also carry with you the responsibilities of a Singaporean, such as finishing National Service and complying with the Exit Permit.
Either way, you need to meet the citizenship application requirements to get this done. Keep in mind getting a Singapore citizenship can’t be done overnight. The process takes months, and that’s not counting the years you may have to spend as a Pass Holder and Permanent Resident beforehand. In this regard, not everyone can apply for Singapore citizenship.
You can apply for Singaporean citizenship if you are at least 21 years old and have a Permanent Resident for at least two years at the time of application. If you have a spouse and children under 21 who are not married, you can apply together.
Things are not any different if you are the spouse of a Singapore citizen and you have been a PR for at least two years. You must have been married for at least two years. You can also fill up the application form if you’re a student who holds a Permanent Residence Permit for Singapore.
But there are a few citizenship application requirements you must meet. You must have been living in Singapore for more than three years, have held a Residence Permit for at least one year, and you have either passed at least one national exam or you are in the Integrated Programe (IP).
Depending on your case, when you apply for Singapore citizenship, you have to attack several documents for each applicant to support your application. Some of the documents needed include foreign ID card, valid passport, birth certificate, family documents, educational documents, employment documents, and picture in line with Singapore photo requirements.
If you are an adult, applying yourself, you will have to attach the aforementioned documents for both yourself and your spouse, even if they aren’t coming with you. Keep in mind that this is not an exhaustive list of documents and the ICA can ask for additional documents after they have reviewed your application.
